Toronto police said Friday that its sexual crimes unit opened an investigation after a woman accused the Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard, of sexually assaulting her.
Police spokeswoman Katrina Arrogante says the musician is not charged for the moment, but an investigation is underway.
She did not elaborate further on the allegations made in late February .
In the midst of turmoil, the Hedley group announced it would take an indefinite break at the conclusion of its Canadian tour, scheduled to end in Kelowna, BC, on March 23.
Rumors of sexual misconduct surrounding the group first emerged on the web last month. They reported inappropriate encounters with young fans.
Hoggard, the leader of the group, also faces many allegations of inappropriate behavior. A Calgary radio presenter said he would have touched her without her consent and made inappropriate sexually explicit remarks.
In a statement released last month, Hoggard admitted to having already behaved “in a way that objectifies women” and was “irresponsible”. He denies, however, any non-consensual sexual relations.
